Asphalt Paving Maintenance Tips

Asphalt Pavement Care and Maintenance - New Installations

Abrasions to the asphalt surface can be avoided by restricting the use of pallet jacks; forklifts; steel garbage containers and other items equipped with metal wheels . When placing pallets and other objects on the new asphalt surface the need to place carefully and not ”drag”  is essential. Try to use a straight path over the surface.

When the Asphalt is new, It is imperative to keep it clean and free of any debris such as leaves, dust, or dirt. Avoid driving over it for the first 48 hours and walk on it only if necessary. Avoid twisting motions on the pavement. The most common mistake is for clients to drive on their new pavement, and turn the wheel of their car. Turning the wheels grinds the wheels into the fresh pavement and ruins the finish. Driving on the new pavement should be avoided whenever possible. If driving on it is unavoidable, drive straight on, and straight off. Avoid turning the wheels and hard stops or accelerations as these movements tear up the asphalt.
